{"id":559,"date":"2016-07-08T09:00:46","date_gmt":"2016-07-08T09:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/francismcwhannell.com\/?p=559"},"modified":"2021-09-12T00:28:14","modified_gmt":"2021-09-12T00:28:14","slug":"tiny-rash-acts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/francismcwhannell.com\/?p=559","title":{"rendered":"Tiny rash acts <h3>The watercolours of Amber Wilson<\/h3>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I first encountered the work of <a href=\"http:\/\/annamilesgallery.com\/artists\/amber-wilson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amber Wilson<\/a> in 2013 at <a href=\"http:\/\/artsdiary.co.nz\/bt40\/1157\/1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Porous Moonlight<\/em><\/a>, a painting show at the unassuming Papakura Art Gallery, curated by Wilson\u2019s friend (and then studio-mate) <a href=\"http:\/\/pantograph-punch.com\/post\/imogen-taylor-glory-hole\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Imogen Taylor<\/a>. Her works, all oils, hung alongside paintings by an unlikely, but totally satisfying, assortment of living and dead artists, including <a href=\"http:\/\/pantograph-punch.com\/post\/pleasure-garden-incident\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frances Hodgkins<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ivananthony.com\/denys-watkins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Denys Watkins<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/hopkinsonmossman.com\/artists\/nicola-farquhar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nicola Farquhar<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/pantograph-punch.com\/post\/an-exchange-between-painters-claudia-jowitt-and-amber-wilson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Claudia Jowitt<\/a>. In a show of confident painters, Wilson stood out for her superb technique, as well as the quiet sense of delight that her works conveyed. Here was a painter who knew her medium intimately and loved to play with it. What I did not know then, and would not discover until earlier this year, was that oil painting was just one part of Wilson\u2019s practice.
